Many moons ago
I based a good training session on….
How sore my body would feel afterwards
So if I found myself with buttocks sorer than a baboons arse
Then I thought ‘great session!’
Fast forward a decade and I had a visitor at Leicester Tigers
A small Japanese man with a mythical air to him like Mr Miyagi
Disappointingly his name was just ‘Ken’
HOWEVER, this guy was a guru, a world leading researcher…
in understanding what ACTUALLY makes the body stronger and fitter
His research proves that my wanting to always feel ‘sore’
The hours and day after a session was RUBBISH!
Basically, Master Ken, proved that what makes your body sore
Does not relate to what makes your body adapt
Whether that’s in a strength, fitness or fat loss perspective
Instead, this delayed muscle soreness is the result of…
Exposing your body to new movements and forces
So take our legendary team member Dino at C.P
(who also has an equally legendary cat)
We did a modified exercise with him Weds…
due to a niggly shoulder, so not to stress it
Funnily enough today he had this soreness…
But its only because it’s a new stimulus and if he did it next week…
The soreness won’t really be there
So don’t base the success of a training session…
On how sore, achy and stiff you feel the next day
There is no relationship!
Plus it shows its important to be CONSISTENT…
Cause’, if you leave an exercise more than approx. 7 days…
Then next time you’ll have that baboons arse soreness
(not great if you involved in sports in particular!)
