Here’s a killer FACT for you…
Approx 1/2 (yes, 50%) of overuse injuries can be cured by strength training
Don’t believe me?
This is the finding of a research paper in the British Journal of Sports Medicine
Looking at studies which totalled over 25,000 subjects
OK, cool, you hear me, but how?
Knowing to strength train is one thing, but doing CORRECTLY is another
The main point is to note the word strength
I.e. the ability to generate force
The better you get a generating more force, the less you get injured
Compare this to the resistance training regime adhered to by 99% of Solihull, Birmingham and the UK…
Tonnes of repetitions, incorrect loading, poor technique, bad exercise selection
This only aids one thing in the long term…
‘Putting on a bit of muscle’ (and joining the no results brigade)
Just think, how often do you see some large gentlemen on the weight machine at a local big box shiny gym…
Who actually isn’t very strong based on his Johnny Bravo sized frame?
And that’s the point, traditional resistance training doesn’t cause significant long term gains in strength
So it certainly won’t cause the type of reductions in you getting injured like mentioned
Take Simon one of our distance runners…
Over a decade of injury woes, but now is getting well into a STRENGTH training programme
Tight technique, great effort, lower repetition, not excessive
He won’t be turning into Jonny Bravo (as we don’t want that)
But he will be getting stronger, less injury prone and be able to spend more time doing what he loves, far better!
Reduce your injury woes significantly like this? Feel free to give me shout here
