The best question you can ask a trainer

Glutes, core, H.I.T…

The buzz words which dominate current lingo the fitness world

But there is problem, a bit of a flaw…

 

Buzz words often lack substance

And if you don’t understand the basic substance behind what you’re doing with your training and nutrition…then soon your motivation will waiver

 

Plus there is so much info out there for you to consider, YET…

There’s no filter on what’s rationale and factual, versus just opinion and incorrect

 

So next time someone uses these words, ask WHY

And keep asking why, until there is a specific reason

 

Take me, Ed and Craig and CP…

When we’re talking about glutes, it could be because:

 

  • Lack of recruitment (activation) here is why your lower back keeps spasming, as your body moves in a way which causes excess movement in your lumbar spine

 

WHY?

 

  • Because the lumbar spine really dislikes a lot of movement, and when you can’t use glutes to extend your hips, your back is going to be significantly more stressed as a result due to flexion

 

 

Or when we’re talking about core, it could be because:

 

  • You’re a cyclist/runner and the lack of strength here causes rotational movement in your spine, which reduces your ability to effectively transfer force through your body, and into the pedal/road

 

WHY?

 

  • Because to transfer force through the body you need stability in key areas, without this, which is provided by strength in areas like the core, the force you create gets absorbed and leaks into other movements besides the one you actually want
