The big thing…you make too little of

I was having a chin wag with member Chris today

 

He has a lot in common with most people, likely including you

 

He explained how he’s spent forever trying gyms, personal trainers, Moroccan dance classes

(Ha sorry the last one is a lie, I could just imagine it though!)

 

But he got nowhere, partly because of something you may relate to…

 

Not feeling comfortable when training

Not feeling settled and part of something which motivated him

Zero sense of accountability or quality structure

 

So guess what?

He didn’t do the work, he didn’t enjoy it, he wasn’t motivated

 

Through my years studying ‘culture’ and what motivates people to achieve with their body, I recall one vivid moment…

 

I got off the phone with a professor in New York

We spoke about this topic, and it clicked

 

The environment you train in is like the fuel in your motor

You can have a whacking great engine with lots of potential

But with minimal fuel (the wrong environment), your not going to get very far

 

The environment you train in is EVERYTHING yet is the last thing considered by the fitness industry

 

So much so when you think about a commercial gym or health club what do you see?

Lots of glass, big mirrors, fancy lights, lines of equipment, cliques and pretentious egos

You’re a small fish in a huge bowl of thousands of members

 

None of which creates an environment for you to be motivated, accountable and achieve in

 

So what does?

 

Genuine personable relationships

Good people who you can relate to

A sense of being part of something

Feedback and structure

 

Don’t undervalue the importance of your environment

You will up your game…

Be more focused…

And enjoy the journey more

 

Oh and make progress faster than a speeding bullet!
