Should be performed…
For optimal gains
(and to avoid a knackered back!)
Why the hips?
Well your probably aware of the glute muscles?
And while these muscles are usually talked about way too much
For most people, there is a BIG lack of strength in them
The issue with this?
Less horsepower in the engine (speed)
And more injury woes (low back, ITB problems)
There’s a load of pretty poor, touchy feely exercises
Which don’t cut the mustard
That aren’t intense enough
Take for example this Saturday
I’ve got Steve and Mick up at our Training Centre in Solihull
The two legends who’re kayaking the Falklands
(while avoiding south Atlantic waves and mines)
This exercise is one I’ll be using with them
Cos’ strength in these gluteal muscles…
Aids stability for them to produce more power…
Through their torso, when they paddle into the abyss!
So as I highlight in the video

Lift the hips into the bar, up to the ceiling…
Let the buttocks drive this…
While keeping your torso ‘locked and crunched’
To produce a perfect line from knee to shoulder
Without arching your lower back
And hyperextending it
