Today was a milestone for someone…
One of those things, that if this was you, that you would remember in many years to come
Robbie, a local Solihull, teenage rugby player, last year completely blew out, and ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
So much so, he and his parents we’re scared if he would ever be able play rugby again
Pretty crap when that’s something you live for, part of your make up and identity?
Injuries are underestimated things in terms of the impact not just physically, but psychologically they place on you
And lets be frank, an ACL so young is a bad one, not only because of instant issues, but the ones that crop up in the future
But do you know what I have a lot of time for?
In fact, one of the thing I respect most in people…
Do you think that’s a given, obvious? Sure, but the reality is, it’s not
Robbie, has trained twice a week, 40 minutes max per time, that’s not long
When you we’re a teenager can you remember the excuses you had?
‘I’ve gotta go see my mates’
‘I’m tired, not bothered!’
But here’s a guy who not once did that
But equally, at times, probably did think the above
(we’re all only human)
So today he was cleared by world class knee specialist Peter Thompson, to return to sport SIX MONTHS ahead of the original diagnosis projected
That’s immense and testament to many things, but the fundamental one?
Are you turning up?
Because nothing, nothing is more frustrating to see than some with potential to achieve a great goal with their body and performance…one which can actually change their life…
To only then have them fall to turn up
Things happen, sure sometimes you occasionally miss training, but when you’ve become so regular at it, it’s a cop out and guess what, you don’t even really know you’re doing it
Out of genuine hope and support for you, if this is you, I hope you see now
Honest coaching is about empathetically telling not just want you want to hear, but the reality of you need to hear to succeed
